Wood screws

A joint you can tighten, take apart, and repair.

Look for suitable offcuts, existing supplies, or workshop access

Get to know it

Match screw length and diameter to the actual pieces. A screw must enter enough sound wood to hold while its tip stays safely inside the assembly. Pilot and clearance holes serve different purposes: the outer piece must be pulled against the receiving piece.

Keep screw positions away from fragile edges and inspect both faces after driving. End-grain joints and thin sheet edges can be weak; choose a suitable joint rather than relying on a larger screw.
